Ms. Minaj returned to the Ellen Degeneres show where she sat down and talked with the daily talk show host. She talks about surprising past guests who she reunites with in a clip after the jump, being a role model, dealing with her new fortune, getting attention from fans in public, her outfits, her twitter fiasco and more. Ms. Minaj graces the cover of VIBE Magazine’s February/March issue. Check out some excerpts from the feature story below.
You’ve said before that you didn’t really have fun recording Pink Friday.
Nicki Minaj: I felt like I had something to prove to everyone who said a female rapper could not make an album unless she was talking about her pussy. And so I went above and beyond to prove that I could not talk about sex and not talk about my genitalia and still have a successful album. And I proved that. And now my time for proving things to my critics is over. I don’t really need to prove anything to anyone else anymore. Is it still hard to get your way as a woman in this industry?
It’s not hard to get your way when it’s your way or the highway. People either follow suit or they’re not around. I don’t really like the sound of that, ‘cause that sounds like a temper tantrum. I’m just very black and white when it comes to my business. There’s really no gray area. I really don’t have a lot of small talk with people I work with. It’s pretty much let’s get the job done. In the beginning, if people didn’t know me they’d probably assume I wasn’t smart or wasn’t business savvy. But once you sit and talk to me, it’s a different story. You were heavy on the fashion scene last year around Fashion Week with Anna Wintour. Do you feel like you’ve been accepted by the fashion world?
Yeah, I realized more recently that even if it’s for a fashion magazine, I’m not gonna change who I am. When I was doing photo shoots last year, I kept on being told, “This is what we want your hair to look like and this is what we want you to look like,” and it really, really stifled my creativity. So the other day I was talking to a photographer, and he said, “You know what, I like your everyday looks so much better than when you do photo shoots for magazines.” And I was like, “So do I, you’re absolutely right.” I’d been getting more and more frustrated for a while. But I’ve made up my mind that when you see a Nicki Minaj magazine cover from now on, it’s really going to reflect me and it’s going to be something that I creatively had a hand in, because I don’t have to do it anymore. I don’t have to do things just to please people. It’s okay to do what I love because what I love, my fans love. And they’re really the only ones that should matter. The fashion world will have to come to Nicki Minaj, as opposed to Nicki Minaj trying to go to the fashion world.
Grab this on newsstands next week.
I can’t do it anymore Nicki. I can’t defend you when people say they ain’t feeling your music. I was the only guy in the room who used to say Pink Friday was a good album. I was man enough to say that your music had substance. I have no idea what happened, but what we got here today is not the move. Here is her new single Starships off Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded. The album will be released on April 3rd for those Barbz that still care. Grab this on iTunes if you really want to.
This song didn’t catch me when it was released, and I’m still not feeling it months later. The visuals are always nice when it’s Ms. Minaj, and she brought in Hype Williams to make sure it is extra crispy. Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded is due April 3rd.

Coming off the success of her first release off her sophomore album Roman In Moscow, Nicki Minaj drops the official single from Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, which is set to drop February 14th. The video has already been shot for this one and should be coming soon. Stream only, but you can cop it on iTunes right now, below. Shouts to KC on this one.
Yesterday brought the release of Nicki Minaj’ first record off her sophomore album, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded. The song, Roman In Moscow, plays off the title with her continuing her crazy ways as her alter ego Roman. Even Nicki say’s she went off the deep end on this, calling it “the wackest thing on Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded.” My twitter timeline has mixed reviews, but at this point her “Barbz” will take anything and play the hell out of it.
I think twitter may blow up. Nicki Minaj just released the first track from her upcoming sophomore album, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded. The song play’s off the Roman character as you can see by the title, and is produced by Street Runner and Sarom Soundz. Y’all want the full Roman? You got ‘em. I gotta admit, the beat bangs. The album drops Valentines Day.
One year ago to the day, Nicki Minaj released her platinum debut album Pink Friday. Today she took to twitter and announced her sophomore effort will be coming to us on February 14th and will be entitled, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded. I don’t know how I feel about this whole Roman thing. Whatever works though, I guess.
