I met Dee-1 at A3C two years back and he was a real cool guy. His story is interesting and his music is dope. Do your homework on this guy..It’s worth it.
If any title fit an artist perfectly it’s this one. Dee-1 let’s his work do the talking on the first release off The Focus Tape, Shut Up and Grind (S.U.A.G.). Flight School takes care of beat duties this go around. Look for the DJ Drama and Mannie Fresh hosted tape sooner than later.
Hmmm, how did I miss this one along the way? Oh well, better late then never! The homie Dee-1 brings the West Coast to his visuals as he’s ridin’ not-so-by-himself through Venice Beach in Cali with Murs and Syreeta Neal in tow. Appropriately, Ridin’ By Myself is the same title of Dee and Murs 20 city left coast tour. The Focus Tape with DJ Drama drops on July 4th.

Continuing 2DBZ and TheWellVersed’s exclusive conversations from SXSW, we chopped it up with Dee-1 about making the transition from teaching middle school to becoming a full-fledged artist, being nominated for the XXL Freshmen cover, how it’s deeper than music and his hopes to inspire people to better themselves (“It’s about if I die tomorrow making sure that whatever I did while I was here motivated and inspired somebody, hopefully millions”).

During Atlanta’s recent A3C Hip Hop Festival (Oct 6-8th), Grooveshark teamed up with the legendary Stankonia Studios and the production teams SMKA and Royal Flush to create an exclusive mixtape. The project features original songs from artists playing the festival as well as some hometown heroes, and will be available November 16 to stream for free exclusively on Grooveshark. The tracks will be accompanied by several behind the scenes videos featuring the artists and production teams creating the songs from start to finish. Artists who participated in the project include 9th Wonder, Killer Mike, Ying Yang Twins, Freeway, Aleon Craft, Fashawn, Thurzday, Rapsody, and many more. In addition, exclusive BTS videos will be released from Stankonia Sessions. There was a video production crew filming all 3 days capturing behind the scenes footage of the recording process.
