French Montana’s long awaited debut album “Excuse My French” is dropping tomorrow! Check the review after the jump…

1. “Once In A While” (feat. Max B)

Max B in the beginning of the track biggin’ French up via prison pay phone is nice. I thought he would have spit a few bars, which would have been even better. French is talking about hustling and being in the streets. He samples “Barry Bonds” by Kanye West and Lil Wayne in the chorus. The track was cool, but a better one could have been used to open the album.

2. “Trap House” (feat. Birdman and Rick Ross)

The beat is hot and definitely appropriate for the song. French raps about getting his visa and making money. A big theme of the song is that people need to mind their business. Ross delivers on the track talking about flossin what he has. Birdman surprisingly kills his verse too. Each artist compliments each other nicely.

3. “Aint’ Worried About Nothin”

This track is getting heavy club play. When it comes on everybody gets hype. The title says it all; French has it all, so there is nothing to be worried about. With no features on this track, he shows that he can hold his own. He also shouts out various places in the Bronx.

4. “Paranoid” (feat. Young Cash)

The beat is hard, but the Young Cash auto tune chorus isn’t as strong. French talks about people being after him. This isn’t a bad track because the beat saves it, however it is nothing spectacular.

5. “When I Want”

French is rapping about doing what he wants, when he wants. He hangs out with celebrities, blows stacks, and gets all the girls. It sounds like he is living the life. This catchy song will definitely be another club banger to add to his list.

6. “Fuck What Happens Tonight” (feat. DJ Khaled, Mavado, Ace Hood, Snoop Dogg, & Scarface)

Hard track!! Mavado kills the chorus. Ace Hood raps about having his gun and being ready for anything. This is a straight hood track where he talks about being ready to die. Snoop’s smooth flow follows perfectly after intense Ace Hood. “Don’t test the lion, you’ll get dropped on the spot,” is a memorable Snoop line. Scarface ends the song on a grim note. “I want to smell his last breath took,” he is on some serious gangsta flow.

7. “Gifted” (feat. The Weeknd)

The Weeknd’s part starts the song beautifully. It is lengthy which is good because he always delivers. He sings about being gifted when he’s faded. “When they love me, I get money,” is a line from the chorus. “This that Whitney Houston, on her last track,” is a line from French. He hits major punch lines.

8. “Ballin’ Out” (feat. Jeremih & Diddy)

Jeremih is getting his rap on in this track and actually doesn’t sound too bad. They ball out everyday is the overall theme of the song. Diddy’s verse was on point too, kudos to his ghostwriter. French raps about being born to ball out.

9. “I Told Em”

This track has an interesting beat. French raps about getting money fast, but still being in the hood. He gets away from people and is just about his money. Typical French Montana song, there is nothing incredibly special about it. The beat breakdown towards the end is hot though.

10. “Pop That” (feat. Drake, Rick Ross, & Lil Wayne)

Unless you live under a rock, you’ve heard French Montana’s remake of Uncle Luke’s “Doodoo Brown.” This track took control of radio waves and clubs all across the country. Be prepared to dance when this comes on.

11. “Freaks” (feat. Nicki Minaj)

Another popular radio and club track, French samples two reggae songs “Freaks” and “Murder She Wrote.” Nicki Minaj actually kills her verse going back to her Trini roots. Reggae heads will enjoy this one.

12. “We Go Wherever We Want” (feat. Ne-Yo and Raekwon)

Sampling “Ice Cream” by Raekwon, this track is tough. Ne-Yo sounds good on the chorus. French is on the end of the chorus saying that people can’t go where they go. “I skipped prayer just to make money, hope God forgives me man, I was hungry,” is a real line from French. Raekwon kills his verse as expected.

13. “Bust It Open”

Bad Boy must be paying Uncle Luke, as this song samples “Doodoo Brown” again. This will be a club banger for sure as girls will be breaking it down. From the title, you can already gather what the song it going to be about.

Deluxe Edition

14. “Drink Freely” (feat. Rico Love)

French slows it down on this track. “Fly girls have more fun,” is a memorable line. He’ll be buying drinks all night and tells girls to drink freely. What female wouldn’t want to hear that? This is a smooth track and a nice break from the line up of booty poppin music.

15. “Throw It in the Bag” (feat. Chinx Drugz)

The chorus and beat start the song off live! French could have come harder on this first verse. Chinx Drugz did well on his spitting “Freshest one since Bel-Air.” If you were expecting something similar to Fabolous’ song, think again. This is about spending money on yourself not your girl.

16. “Marble Floors” (feat. Rick Ross, Lil Wayne, & 2 Chainz)

This track has also been playing in the clubs like crazy. Weezy’s verse goes hard. 2 Chainz has the worst verse on the song. “Pink in my cup, I’m supporting breast cancer.” I’m sure he meant breast cancer research, but still. I’m not a huge fan of the song, but it is getting a lot of play.

17. “Ocho Cinco” (feat. Diddy, Machine Gun Kelly, Los, & Red Café)

Major club banger. I love the variety of artists on this track. Each rapper kills. Diddy is a fool for stopping the chorus to say his verse, but overall really good song.

18. “40” (feat. Trey Songz & Fabolous)

French could have ended the album with “Ocho Cinco.” Fab kills his verse as expected. Trey Songz did okay with his verse. Overall, the beat is hot, but the song isn’t good enough to end an album with.

For a debut album, French Montana delivers and then some! The ‘sample king’ should be his name because not only does he sample hot songs, he manages to put his spin on it to make it on the same level if not a little better. His features are also ridiculously dope. Diddy and Fabolous are expected, but Scarface and Raekwon?? They were a pleasant surprise. The fact that we’ve heard a good number of tracks already and he still manages to have other hot tracks is impressive. The content is classic French: cars, money, and girls, but there are tracks that still stand out. Most of this album can be played in the club, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. I know Diddy is very pleased with himself because French Montana is bringing Bad Boy back to relevance. We’ll see how long he’s around though, we’ve all heard of the Bad Boy curse. One hot album and you disappear. *cough* Day 26, Danity Kane, Da Band *cough* Anyhow, the deluxe edition is worth the extra penny! Cop the album and prepare to bop your head all day. HAAAANNN!

Fav tracks: 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, and 17

Grade: B+

It’s been a year since we’ve gotten a new project from Brookyn’s L.atasha A.lcindor, but she makes her triumphant return with a new EP she is calling SPARK. Let’s let her tell the story on this one…

SPARK is a bullet shot in the dark. For about a year, I was fighting to find my sound and understanding of myself as an artist. However with a little faith, patience and freedom, I developed my newest EP SPARK, presented to you by DJbooth.net. Keeping my eyes closed but my heart open, the EP is feeling in motion, thoughts in time and spirit in demonstration. Dedicated to my creativity and randomness, SPARK veers from electronica, to hip hop, to dance hall, back to hip hop, with production from Willie B. of Digiphonics, The Fourth Coming, Ken10, London’s Freshnerd of 100akres and JWT, and features include Ryshon Jones, Dosage, Abstract Random and Tasha the Amazon. This project is my personality packed up in a ball of fire. I hope you love it as much as I loved making it. And please look out for a few videos coming out for the project including Down To Earth Thoughts and my new SUMMER IN L.A. T-shirts coming out Friday, May 17th on ucancallmela.bigcartel.com.

This girls stock is rising fast. You aren’t gonna wanna miss this ride. Check out the Homebass Studios mixed project below and download your copy today.

It has been 11 years since we’ve got an album from Eve! Through label mishaps and name changes “Lip Lock” was finally released today. Check the review after the jump.

1. “Eve” (feat. Miss Kitty)

This beat is hot and a great way to start the album. It has hip-hop flair, with a dash of techno. The “Eve” breakdown is creative and the chorus has a Middle Eastern influence. Eve definitely still has her lyrical spunk. She raps about the love for her fans and how no one can touch her. Miss Kitty added some Caribbean flavor, which was a nice addition to the song.

2. “She Bad Bad”

I wasn’t a fan of this song when it first came out and still am not one now. There is way too much going on and the chorus is trash. Eve didn’t deliver lyrically on this track either. I’m not sure who walks around saying “oh she bah bah,” but if you do please stop.

3. “Make It Out This Town” (feat. Gabe Saporta)

This is a reflective track about breaking free from where you are; anything is possible. Gabe (from Cobra Starship) sings the chorus really well. Mostly anyone can relate to this song because no one wants to stay where they are forever. Another message is not to let anyone deter you.

4. “All Night” (feat. Claude Kelly and Propain)

There are heavy horns in the beginning of the beat that sound hot. However, overall the song is just mediocre. The “all night” breakdown is nothing special. This is a track that gets played when the club first opens and there is no one really there. Eve’s lyrics are full of corny punch lines. Claude Kelly’s chorus falls short of being good. Propain’s verse is the highlight of the song; he actually kills it.

5. “Keep Me From You” (feat. Dawn Richard)

The beat sounds familiar to Black Eyed Peas’ “I Gotta Feeling.” Dawns voice sounds really nice on the chorus. Eve is rapping about love, but isn’t selling it. She could have dug deeper in expressing herself. This is another mediocre track.

6. “Wanna Be” (feat. Missy Elliott and Nacho)

Sounding like something from a crime/mystery movie, the piano part of the beat sounds great. Eve is talking about how her life has changed over the past years. “Got bank rolls bigger than your backpack.” We see you out here Eve, straight stuntin’! Missy’s verse would have been better if she didn’t have so many effects on her voice. That ruined the song a bit. Nacho killed her verse and I loved how the beat switched up during her part.

7. “Mama In The Kitchen” (feat. Snoop Dogg)

This beat sounds interesting at first and goes hard once Snoop’s chorus starts. Eve is talking about how she is the cure to the rap game. I didn’t really get the “mama in the kitchen” reference, but Eve still kills the song. “Most of my currency is foreign,” is a hot line. My only problem is, why didn’t Snoop spit a verse? That’s disappointing.

8. “Grind or Die”

This song is hype and the beat goes hard, as well as the chorus. Eve is on point with her lyrics, sounding like herself circa 2002. This should have been the lead single off the album. It is def a song you can dance or get your workout on to.

9. “Zero Below”

Eve raps about her heart being cold, beating zero below. The techno beat works well with Eve’s hard flow. She is reclaiming her throne in the kingdom of hip-hop.

10. “Forgive Me”

Eve took it back with the reggae sample of “Baby Can I Hold You” by Tracy Chapman. She’s talking about someone’s man wanting her. To sample such a hot song, Eve could have went harder. You can’t be just okay with classic reggae.

11. “Never Gone” (feat. Chrisette Michele)

Another reflective track where Eve talks about making it and the legacy she wants to leave behind. Chrisette sounds amazing as always and Eve really opens up on this track. “What’s a fight without defeat?” is a nice line from the chorus.

12. “She Bad Bad (Remix)” (feat. Juicy J and Pusha T)

There is no need for this song to appear twice on the album. Pusha T and Juicy J have gone harder on other remixes. The “oh she…” repeating during the beginning of the verses becomes annoying. This was a cop-out to end the album.

Eve has not dropped an album for 11 years, so I wasn’t expecting musical gold. The industry has changed since she was hot, as well as her life. We can clearly hear how she’s ballin’ out now thanks to her super rich boyfriend Max Cooper. She didn’t have to make this album, but she did for her fans, which I can respect. Overall there are a few hot tracks and others are descent. The album isn’t fantastic, but it is short and sweet. If there are any die-hard Eve fans left, you should give it a listen to hear how she has evolved.

Fav tracks: 1, 3, 6, 7, 8, and 9

Grade: B-

Seriously though, her lyrics are gritty and real allowing the listener to get lost in the moment. Unlike most female artist, who either talk about whoring themselves out or spittin’ extra greezy like a dude, LA is a breathe of fresh air for females. She consistantly delivers her real-life stories along with spiritual references that anyone can relate to. Her new EP titled SPARK is gonna make some waves, trust me. Ladies, this is a strong women you can be proud of.
